Job Description

The Vice President, Controller reports to the Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) and assists in leading all technical accounting, close-cycle processes, controls, and certain treasury operations of the global business. This role has responsibility for developing and enforcing policies and procedures of all end-to-end accounting processes and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and statutory accounting and control standards. The position will set the tone of the global accounting team and will delegate tasks, coach others, and perform detailed work. The job will lead and inspire a high-performance team, influence others without a direct line of authority, and resolve conflict diplomatically. This role requires exceptional organizational, analytical, critical thinking, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the monthly and quarterly close process, including billing and AP functions, and ensure all general ledger account reconciliations are completed timely and accurately

  • Serve as mentor and coach to the core accounting team, define team strategy, and lead by example with empathy and humility

  • Adopt accounting policies and formalize assumptions and conclusions used based on technical research

  • Ensure compliance will all SOX key controls including the documentation of processes, narratives, and control memorandums

  • Partner with business leaders to drive cross-function projects such as product enhancements and implementations, M&A due diligence, and general support of the global business

  • Oversee the treasury function of the global business, including the administration of banking and investment operations, manage relationships with bank partners, cash forecasting, debt compliance, and safe guard the company’s assets

  • Accountable for ensuring accounting & control policies and procedures are established to address and mitigate risk and are in-compliance with all applicable regulatory and statutory standards

  • Develop strategy of continuous process improvement and promote the creation of scalable, efficient processes, including the ise of automation

  • Manage the administration and configuration of general ledger and reporting software, including quarterly access reviews

  • Manage the relationship with internal and external auditors, including completion of the consolidated and subsidiary audits

  • Assist CAO and CFO in Audit Committee, and other committees as applicable, coordination and presentation

  • Serve as FINOP or back-up FINOP, as applicable, for the Company’s broker dealers

  • Performs other related duties as required or requested

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance related field

  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive public accounting experience, or a minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience

  • Advanced knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), IFRS a plus

  • Drive for continuous improvement and learning, and a desire to excel as a leader and mentor who provides knowledge and inspires others to learn and develop

  • Exceptional written and verbal skills – ability to formalize corporate level policies and procedures and simplify complex financial concepts for stakeholders

  • Executive presence – ability to partner with all areas of the global business and present recommendations to executive leaders and committees

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel & Word

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance-related field, CPA is a plus

  • Minimum of 6 years of progressive public accounting experience preferred

  • Experience with Workday accounting software, IBM Planning Analytics TM1 a plus

  • Proven background of establishing relationships with cross-functional business partners

  • Passion for defining team strategy and fostering a culture of ethics and high-performance
