We are a passionate team on a mission to enable a fairer, more decentralised world. Apart from the tech, we care a lot about user experience and aim to make complex technologies accessible to everyone.

A quick run-down of the job

We are seeking a VP of Engineering who will play a pivotal role in driving innovation, leading R&D projects to explore and implement cutting-edge technologies, overseeing MVPs and POCs, and identifying forward-thinking solutions to complex technical challenges. You will focus on testing new technology that could enhance our offerings and on implementing industry-first solutions in multi-chain DeFi.

In addition to driving tech exploration, you will strategically tackle tech debt through innovative refactoring where necessary, lead the design and deployment of new tools and systems, and manage the outsourcing of select MVPs and POCs to ensure high-quality execution.

This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise across emerging tech domains, and a passion for pushing boundaries. You will collaborate with engineering leads, product teams, and leadership to ensure our strategy aligns with our growth and innovation goals, reporting directly to the CTO.

Please note: This role requires you to be located in EMEA region. Your application will not be considered otherwise.

  • Oversee the outsourcing process of MVPs and POCs, ensuring quality and efficiency

  • Identify and solve new, large-scale technical challenges across the company, with a focus on innovation, scalability, security, and performance

  • Take charge of forward-looking initiatives to strategically manage tech debt, exploring novel ways to improve architecture and optimize routing for cross-ecosystem support

  • Lead the design and implementation of critical tools and systems to enable secure, efficient smart contract deployments

  • Stay at the forefront of blockchain and Web3 developments, constantly testing and evaluating the newest tech to keep LI.FI on the leading edge

  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and leadership teams to align with long-term goals, emphasizing strategic growth through tech innovation

  • Advocate for engineering best practices, including code reviews, CI/CD processes, and security

  • Lead the team in adopting cutting-edge innovations to enhance our DeFi solutions

What makes a good candidate

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on blockchain, Web3, or distributed systems

  • Proven experience leading cross-functional engineering teams through complex projects (R&D, MVPs, and POCs)

  • A strong drive to explore and test emerging technology, constantly seeking new ways to create value

  • Ability to confidently make “make or buy” decisions, balancing in-house and outsourced development as needed

  • Proficiency in TypeScript and a second, lower-level language like Rust or Go

  • At least 3 years of production experience in crypto, with a deep understanding of DeFi challenges

  • Prior experience in a DeFi or Web3 company

  • Strong background in smart contract development and blockchain technology, including secure deployment practices

  • Experience working with EVM and non-EVM ecosystems (e.g., Solana, Cosmos)

  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across teams and leadership

  • Experience with agile development practices and driving engineering excellence
